Week 12 Reflection

Week 12 Reflection

Previously in Week 12…

Action:

For taking action, we made some plans like what action is and what you want to do to take action. We listed what we wanted to do, then we turned it into a graph. The graph was about what impact it will have and the sustainability of the project.

There are different types of action:

  • Direct action – person to person
  • Indirect action – not interacting with other, but doing something to help other
  • Advocacy – creating awareness and impacting decision making
  • Researching for action – finding and gathering further information for other to take action

Presentation:

This week I can up with a idea and my idea was jars! That’s not all they have plastic in them 😏. Well the purpose of it is that it shows how long it takes for certain plastics to break down.

Week 11 Reflection

Previously in Week 11… we have been working on our presentation. We made banners, bookmarks, models, pool of fun facts & some book marks that you can write “I takes a pledge to”…

Bookmarks

The bookmarks took soooooo long to cut out. Somebody was in charge of cut and printing them out and as soon as he cuts out 3 bookmarks he goes to a lesson. So I had to cut out the 49 left.

Banners

I was very confused when I had to do the banner I didn’t know how to put the big letters on the paper. But I figured it out and used a  text box to put it in the middle of the page.

Model

The model was made out of wire and we stuffed it with plastic to show what fish will look like in the future and how it would effect the environment.

Fun fact waters

We made a fun fact waters ‘Beware fun fact waters’ which has facts like “did you know that it takes 500 years for a toothbrush to break down.

I take a pledge to…

I take pledge is a bookmark that you write what we pledge or promise to do something about water pollution

The next thing I need to do is take action but I have no idea what to do.

Week 9 Reflection

Previously in Week 9 … I have finally finished my information texts. I reached my goal. If you saw my reflection last week I set a goal to finish my information texts.

This week we had to write another piece of poetry. Because the other classes are doing two or three pieces. My poem is called I am water pollution. It is ab out what water pollution is and that nobody is trying to stop it. I found it hard to come with another poem. But Miss Slater showed us some styles of poems. I picked the personification poem because I felt people needed to know what water pollution is and that they can take action.I wrote as if I was the water, this allowed me to express my values and raise awareness about this issue.

All I need to do now is dream up my presentation and plan for next term.

Week 8 Reflection

Previously in Week 8… We have been making conclusions. By the end of next week we have to finish making our conclusions (information texts). I have done one and a half information texts. Next week I need to finish all of my information texts.in PE (dance) this week we need to show a story about our global issue. We have also started to record our one minute and seventeen seconds of our video. I am the fish getting poisoned and dying. Most of the video I was rolling around on the floor. This week I am also in the middle of creating my data representation. I chose a line graph because my question is about what has happened over the years.

This week we also went on a late excursion to the Walkerville council to add some more information to our research. The people we interviewed were Carly Walker and Joshua Bowen.

Research Reflection

Finding out

This week I wasn’t up to date with my finding out. I had to take my iPad home to finish researching. I had two more questions to finish off. ‘What should happen If we don’t do anything about water pollution?’ and ‘why does water smell like rotten eggs?’ It took me a while to finish ‘the consequences of water pollution’ (one of my lines of inquiry). It took me longer to to this line of inquiry because it had twice as many questions as the reflection question. The questions were also more detailed

Sorting out

In sorting out I had to sort out the most important information that I thought that was helpful. As I went though all of the lines of Inquiry I found what I needed to research more about. I didn’t take much time to sort out all of my research. I found a few thing I wanted to go deeper in.

Going Further

When I did going further I came up with two more questions that i wanted to go further with. The questions were ‘how does water pollution affect marine life?’ And ‘what kind of chemicals are harmful to water pollution?’. I also found a graph to use to keep my information in. I found a bar graph that shows how much water has been consumed and the wastewater has grown over the years.

Week six reflection

This week (finding out) I needed to get data for 3 lines of inquiry. In 3 days I finished of 2 lines of inquiry. I felt I was proud of it because I thought it would take me about a week to finish 3 lines of inquiry. I found it a challenge to keep myself focused on my work. But once I got the flow I was in the zone. I need to finish off one more of my line of inquiry. I have definitely found a lot of information about each question. I at least found 15 dot points for every one.

Tuning In Reflection

I chose water pollution to be my global issue, because I have always loved marine life. But when I heard about the issue I wanted to help fix this problem. My central idea is ‘the impact of humankind is unsustainable’. I chose the word unsustainable because, unsustainable means we are not able to maintain the current rate. The transdisciplinary skills I am trying to focus on is time management and organisation skills. I chose time management because I am not very good with using my time well. At our first mentor meeting we shared our central idea and why we chose our central idea. We also shared our knowledge of expedition so far. In some tasks I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish the task in time. Also in some tasks I felt really confident in It and I got It done quicker.

Lotus diagram questions

Today at exhibition we used a lotus diagram. We used the diagram to sort out our question into related key concepts. The key concepts are reflection, change, connection, causation, responsibility, perspective, function, form. Most of my questions were in causation, change and responsibility.
